There is an chestnut attributed to Benjamin Franklin which says, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” This statement by him was originally meant as fire-fighting advice nevertheless it has now become helpful advice in countless areas. One of these is definitely the health of one's pets. When the topic is heartworms in dogs, this tip is important. Learning how to prevent heartworms is going to be less difficult on your wallet than spending hard earned cash trying to remove this parasite once it's infected your beloved pet.

There are numerous myths how animals are infected but you need to understand that only infected mosquitoes can transfer this disease in your dog. There are reported cases of heartworms in dogs reported in all 50 states of America in addition to just about every country on the planet. Some veterinarians have told pet keepers to not worry because they are typically low risk areas however you should still be wary that there is a chance the animal might get this disease.

Once a pet is infected it takes about seven months for the larvae to develop into mature adults. The ultimate resting spot for the heartworm is in the animal's lungs, its heart or surrounding blood tissue. And here, they'll burrow in and make a home for themselves. The actual danger at this point in the infestation is the parasites will reproduce in large numbers. Some reported cases have experienced up to two hundred and fifty worms living inside of a single animal.

It isn't really all bad news however. Individuals are at a minimal risk to be infected with this worm. Heartworms can't reach the mature stage in their lifecycle inside people. This is the reason they do not reproduce. What may occur is the development of a little lesion within the lungs of the person infected. This could appear to be a tumor but it is not.

Finding information about heartworms in cats online

Your first question may very well be; can one dog in my household infect my other pets? The simple answer is no, this can not take place. Infected mosquitoes are the only method a pet can get heartworms. If the dog is infected and is bitten by the mosquito which in turn bites another animal, your pet is safe. Your second animal won't be infected because of the now heartworm carrying insect. This is because there is an incubation period inside the mosquito before that bug can infect other animals.

Heartworms in dogs is not something that you should ignore. Should you not treat your pet who has been infected, that animal can die. Prevention can be so much cheaper when compared to a cure. For only 35 to 80 dollars, depending on the size of your animal, it is possible to buy enough medicine to prevent heartworms in dogs for an entire year. An exceptionally economical solution to what could be a highly expensive situation to manage.

Curing heartworms in dogs is not simple

For a pet's long and healthy life, your spending just a little in the prevention of heartworms in dogs is going to be best in the end. Eliminating the worms after infestation can run into a lot of money. Save the grief and buy the meds. Tapeworms, whipworms and roundworms is usually prevented as modern day medicines add some treatment for these infestations also. All in all you'll be more satisfied and have the companionship of one's dog for countless years in the future.

When considering a new pet, it is important to decide whether a cat or a dog is going to fit better into the family. It might be that you have a preference already but need to know if it is going to be the best choice. It is often useful to get some very basic pet health pointers about which animal is going to be the best for you and your family. After all buying a pet is something that should not be taken for granted and it needs to be a worthwhile decision.

Consider Furry Bundles Of Joy

Many people would agree that cats are furry bundles of fun, and they are great for the owner looking for a low maintenance pet. Cats are strong willed and like to get out and about on a regular basis, so be sure to let them have their own space. Bear in mind that cats don’t need a huge amount of exercise, but they do need to get outside every now and then. Now when it comes to pet health, cats mainly suffer with hairball problems and these should be monitored. Vets also recommend that milk is avoided as it can be hard for cats to tolerate. To keep the pet healthy, feed dry food watered down so it is easier to swallow and this will relieve potential constipation, which cats can also suffer with.

For people looking for a pet that’s simple to look after, a cat could be a great option. However, they are not the warmest of animals when it comes to companionship and affection, which is why many people opt for a dog instead. Also think about cat allergies, which many people suffer with, and in general more people are allergic to cats than dogs.

The Dog - Man’s Best Friend

People love their dogs and the majority of people in the UK choose dogs over cats. Although low maintenance in terms of pet health care, dogs have long been considered the faithful companion that owners need in their lives. Man’s best friend is loyal and can be great with kids. As pet health is so crucial with dogs, you need to make sure the dog doesn’t get overweight and also gets enough exercise. In terms of food, dry dog food is recommended. Ensure the dog has regular access to plenty of water.

Remember that grooming is an important aspect you need to be aware of and this can help with general pet health. Do not feed chocolate, as this is poisonous to dogs and their pet health.

The dog as we recognize it at the moment is a successor of the Gray Wolf. Even though dogs are disciplined at the moment formerly they were undomesticated and survived in huge sets. The domestication procedure may have happened around 15000 years ago. The dogs quickly happened to be a recognized part of every culture throughout the world. They were a valuable benefit to human communities as they were excellent guard dogs, could protect their owners and could assist in stalking too. They can perform a lot of hats – hunters, guardians, buddies, assistants for challenged people and so forth. Today there are hundreds of dog types and about four hundred million of them.

A dog has diverse physical forms based on the type. Their colour, eyes, ears, tails, body shape, noses, skin, size, height, weight – all these diverge very much between type and type. They as well differ sharply in their manners and their basic outlook. There are literally hundreds of different combination that you might end up with, allowing each specific dog to really be unique and different than any other dog out there today. Even dogs of the same breed vary, and they differ based on any number of aspects. The permutations for how many different types of coats alone is mind boggling to say the least. Their standard life span differ between ten and fifteen years. While big dogs survive for a slighter number of years minor types exist greatly longer. A male dog is a dog, a female is identified as a bitch and a little one is identified as a pup. A set of pups that have been born is known as a litter.

Dogs have powerful hearing and smelling capabilities and due to that they could protect and detect. Their sight is typical. They are known as man’s best friends because they could somewhat clearly adjust to any position that is given to them within their scope of capacity. They could herd livestock in farms, they may assist as indicators in hunting, they are good in managing rodents easily, they protect and even assist fisher men to draw out their nets throughout a drag. Dogs are also pushed into work as point dogs, function dogs, hearing and help dogs and also as therapy dogs in psychological instances – in all these matters dogs have time and again showed their brains, compassion, comprehension and dependability. As dogs have developed from the group mentality where they were accustomed to interacting on a huge scale they have been very adjusted to be responsible for commands and get taught properly in any area.

If you are not able to have dogs in your current residence due to place restrictions you would want to search for a new house to put up a dog or dogs contentedly. While relocating you would possibly require a moving company to look after all your packing and moving desires. A cheap moving companies may assist you in saving money. It is quite easy to search for such a company – just by starting a hunt on the world wide web and comparing quotations from the several relocating companies. If you by now have dogs you may even look for carriers who are professionals in relocating pets.

A new puppy this Christmas would be the ideal gift for a lot of dog lovers, but you have to ask yourself if it is really the right thing to buy. It is unfortunate that there are so many dogs in the shelters, but this is often because people cant cope after they bought the dog as a Christmas present, thinking it would be ‘fun’ without realising the hard work that goes into owning a dog. Sometimes, the outcome is even worse and some dogs just get sent out onto the streets. This is the harsh reality, but thankfully there are many pet lovers that wouldn’t dream of hurting an animal like this.

The moral of this day really is that a dog is for life and not purely for Christmas. Boyfriends buying a puppy for a girlfriend should carefully consider it to make sure the dog will be brought up in a suitable environment and that it is going to get enough attention. However, the best advice is to never buy a pet as a Christmas gift. The issue is that break-ups in the home are inevitable and the pet gets dragged into it and often associated with the person who bought it, so naturally they get viewed in a bad light. In some cases, the dog gets mistreated. It is sad that this happens, but pets should never be associated with the person that bought it. Remember, the dog is part of the family too.

In many respects, what we need is a more pro-active approach to dog health care, so that the dog doesn’t get sent to a shelter or end up on the streets. Learn about what the dog needs and how it needs affection just like everyone else in the family. Regular food, playtimes and walks will help to keep your dog happy and healthy. Just spend a good few months getting to know your pet and how best to look after it, taking into account all good dog health care tips, and this will prevent the influx of dogs at the shelter all year round. With rising dog numbers in shelters up and down the country, something needs to be done to stop people from buying pets when they can’t look after them properly. Don’t buy a pet at Christmas time, or any other time, unless dog health care really will be top of your priorities.

Dog destructive chewing is different for every dog. Some dogs love to chew on anything, however other dogs have no interest in chewing.

Here are three reasons why dogs chew:

- Dogs generally have a natural desire to chew, especially if it is something really good like a bone. However, some dogs will chew on anything, like pencils, shoes and rocks! - Chewing provides relief for anxious or nervous dogs - Dogs who do not get enough exercise often chew to get rid of nervous energy

How can you make the dog destructive chewing stop?

1. You first need to dog proof your home in much the same way you would with a new toddler walking around. Put your stuff away, make sure no food is left laying around and keep the temptations to a minimum for your dog.

2. Do not give any old socks or shoes or other items to your dog. These are people items and it will confuse the dog. He will not understand what is off limits.

3. Give your dog other stuff to chew on like bones, toys and other dog items. This will keep the dog occupied and away from your things.

4. Be sure you are spending time watching over your dog so that you can correct any bad behavior while it is happening.

5. Come up with a sound that you can make when you catch your dog chewing. You do not want to hit or yell, as this will be counter productive to your dog trusting you. You might want to use a water spray bottle to startle your dog when they are chewing something to let them know it is wrong.

Love your doggie and be patient. You can stop dog destructive chewing with a little patience and love.

Dogs are usually high strung and are eager to do whatever the owner wants. Dogs are happiest when they have something to do, and even more so when they actually receive some sort of treat for having done it. These are things that you're going to want to use to your advantage as you try to teach them to do different tricks. The things that they do naturally can be very useful in teaching them to do new things. These habits that they have developed along with the treats that you give them make it a lot easier to train a dog.

Have a look at your dog and try to determine what he or she does for fun. Does he chase butterflies? Does he crawl on his belly? If you think you see him doing something that would make a marvelous trick, then you're already halfway there. You'll want to use the same hand motion every time the dog does it, and then you'll want to provide a treat. By using this method the dog will know a treat is coming and be more than happy to do the trick whenever you display the hand motion.

Numerous dogs have weight or diet concerns so don't get carried away with the food treats. Utilizing treats may be a positive way to get started and to reinforce your dog's attention and focus but in the long run you want your dog reacting and doing tricks as a result of vocal instructions, hand signals, and praise for a a completed and well done trick. Once the appropriate signal-command/reaction-trick associations are rooted and automatic the use of treats can be limited or totally discontinued.

For the most part dogs learn very fast and they'll understand that a treat waits for them so long as they perform the trick when you give the command. Sometimes you might have to improvise, so for example after you teach them "down" you might from that position teach them "play dead", and you'll have to get the dog to associate the new command with the additional trick. After a bit of training you can use other commands such as "stay", "come", and even "sit" and add on tricks from those starting points.

An additional way to get your dog's attention when designing some tricks is to utilize a favorite plaything. Using a squeaky toy or a ball your dog likes to play with, just beyond his reach, rapidly move it up and down coaxing him to jump at the same time giving him the "jump" vocal command. After repeating until he associates the command and hand motion with the action of jumping, remove the toy and utilize just your hand and the vocal command.

Capitalize on your dog's perceptive sense of smell... his capacity to recognize smells up close and at long range is fascinating. This incredible ability can be utilized in teaching many types of "hide-and-seek" tricks and games. Again, using a favorite chew toy or chew ball, hide it under a box or other object. Start-off close up and by degrees extend the distance or increase the difficulty in stages, for example positioning the box in a different room or up on a shelf.

Do you want your dog to shake hands? A great way to teach this trick is to use your dog's affection for you as his owner and perhaps his automatic behavior of presenting you his paw. You can reinforce this by kneeling in front of your dog, presenting your "paw" and giving the command "high five","five","give me five", "shake", or whatever command you think up to employ. When he responds properly, reward him with accolades or a food snack. He will rapidly figure it out.

Very often the dog will offer you his paw right off the bat. With some dogs you will need to help them catch on by elevating their paw whilst using the vocal command. Bear in mind the need to praise even if you have to raise his paw into position, then place the paw back down and do it again.

There are a few other things that you can expand on once you've taught the dog a few tricks. One thing that you can do is expand the high five into a way to make them sit up. You can do this by compelling them to raise both paws, at which point they'll just sit up. Once you've gotten them to do this, make sure you give them a treat.

There are many different things you can do to train a dog. Whether you do it for behavior control, house breaking, or just tricks, you'll find that this greatly strengthen the bond between you and your dog. This is a great way to become closer to your dog.

by Daniel Varena

One would expect to find many behavioral differences between all the different dog breeds. After all they appear to be very different, but they do share quite an amount of character traits.

There is an estimated amount of 800 different breeds in the developed countries alone. Albeit not always that distinct, the majority of them do differ quite substantially. A surprising variety especially when you compare it to humans that can may be categorized in 12 'breeds'.

People started domesticating dogs 8000 years B.C. Experts agree that the ancestor of our dog is the wolf. From an evolutionary standpoint 10.000 years is nothing. This is why we still see dog behavior that is very much related to wolf behavior.

Dogs are exploratory:

Dogs learn by exploring their environment, just like two-year-old children. They are at roughly the same mental level. And like children, they can display destructive behavior. Dogs by nature will not respect your property. Training, the right toys together with a dedicated area for the dog will channel his behavior into acceptable behavior for humans and at same time healthy behavior for the dog.

I advise you to select special dog toys that are different from children's toys to make it easy for your dog to know what to play with. Dogs not only recognize an object by shape, but also by scent, so even if you decide to give him a tennis ball he will be capable of differentiation between the one you use for playing tennis and his. But all the same, the more the toys differ, the better it is.

Your dog likes to dig. All dogs like to dig. That's why you shouldn't let him unsupervised in the garden, because if not your lawn will look like a desert in no time. Think about protecting your flowers with cayenne pepper. That at least will save them from destruction.

They are scavengers:

Dogs will eat deer droppings, even when they are on a perfect diet. They'll chew on dead rats, eat grass and ingest a wide variety of things that can even do harm to their stomachs. And they'll repeat the behavior again and again.

Dogs have a very limited capacity to understand consequences now with the cause in the past. Be careful when you take your dog out for a walk and make sure he can't eat anything what's bad for him.

Recognize your dog's nature, and work with it rather than against it. Enjoy all their positive things, such as spontaneous dog hugs, paw shaking or when he lays his head down on your lap. Those are just a few of the rewards for being a responsible owner.

The German Shepherd will give you the impression of dominance and agility the moment you meet one. It is a regal animal, alert and bursting with vim and vigor, presenting an image of healthy muscular fitness. This is a large-sized dog, with a good solid body that is long rather than tall.

When you look upon one of the members of this breed, you are struck right away by their noble demeanor. The German Shepherd is a coolly aloof dog, exuding subtle confidence and poise, and does not make friends with strangers easily. It is straightforward and bold, but is known for its disciplined nature.

Once trust and a solid relationship are established, The German Shepherd is quite fond of children. He is a first-rate guard dog, and a faithful family pet: just the right choice for many families. If youre looking for a dog that has intelligence, agility and loyalty, perhaps a German Shepherd would be perfect for you!

Named Deutscher Schferhund, this dog was quite literally called German Shepherd Dog. In the 1800s, in Germanys local communities, it was practical to have dogs that could guide groups of sheep or cattle. Bred to inculcate qualities that would assure their assistance in steering sheep flocks and defending these animals from predators, this was the original purpose of the German Shepherd.

Dogs believed to have the traits necessary for herding sheep, like brawn, brains and a good nose would be selected and bred by shepherds. The end resulted in dogs that executed their duties superbly, but varied in outward appearance and skill, depending where they came from and were bred. This was an accepted practice back in the 1800s, in Germanys local communities.

German Shepherds are marked by a willingness to learn and an eagerness to have a purpose. Because of these characteristics that make for a loyal protector and herder, it is also hailed as the worlds leading police, guard and military dog. Not only that, its a loving family companion, herder and show competitor.

It is one of the most popular selections for use as a working dog, being especially well known for helping the police by tracking down criminals, guarding and holding suspects, and patrolling risky areas. They are also indispensable in search and rescue, cadaver searching and narcotics and explosives detection, to name just a few. This is because of their sharp sense of smell and ability to work even in a distracting environment, such as airports or shopping malls.

With his tan and black or red and black coat and his dignified stance and bearing, the German Shepherds countenance is intelligent, keen and composed. They have a splendid outer coat that is close and dense, while their undercoat is thick and their tails are bushy, reaching to the hock. With this dog conveying understated strength and toughness, and being one of the smartest, most agile and hardest-working dogs out there, youd do well adopt a German Shepherd now and make the best choice for gaining both a protector and a friend.

White German Shepherd dogs are well known for their distinctive characteristic as being fearless and direct. They are also alert and eager to provide any assistance whenever needed. In whatever circumstance, they are the kind of breed that is always associated with being friendly.

These White Shepherds are also regarded as being obedient and responsive in nature. Like the ordinary German Shepherd dogs, they are medium sized, well balanced and muscular and that is why they are branded as an all-around working dog. They can be curious at times but they enjoy playing around.

Recent genetic studies revealed that the white color associated with the White German Shepherd dogs is completely unrelated to albinism. The white code in the genes is fundamental to the overall conformation of the dogs breed color. The risks of breed color paling or genetic health defects that breeders feared was never proven to be related with the white color.

These dogs share the same features with the ordinary German Shepherd dogs. What makes them unique is the remarkable white coat which is not normal as believed in the early discovery of the white breed. And definitely, the white color is not associated with albinism.

It was in 1917 that the first trace of the White Shepherd breed was registered by the American Kennel Club. Anne Tracy imported them into the United States making the white strain breed known. Although the said father of all the German Shepherds lived as early as 1890s, litters emerged a little later.

Being fearless and direct is the distinctive characteristic of the White German Shepherd dogs. They are alert and eager to provide any assistance needed. In whatever circumstance, they are always willing to become a companion dog.

The White German Shepherd breed has a very playful personality. Depending on the dog, they can learn various tricks and are considered to be intelligent animals. These breed are very respectful and can be trained to socialize with other pets and children as well.

The very reason why White German Shepherds were not allowed to compete in dog shows before is due to its unique white color. They were mistakenly referred to as Albinos. But later, these dogs were recognized in America are now commonly known as the American-Canadian White Shepherd.

The Border Terrier is a breed of dog of the terrier type that came from the borders of England and Scotland. Its ancestors are said to be the Dandie Dinmont terrier and the Bedlington terrier. Today, countless of families choose the Border terrier as a companion and in fact, this breed ranked 81st in the American Kennel Club registry and 10th at the UK kennel club.

This dog was named Border Terrier because of the fact that it was first seen and has flourished in the Scottish borders. This dog has existed probably for centuries but it was only in 1920 that it was officially recognized as a breed by the Kennel Club. Before this recognition though, the Border Terrier fell under the "Any Other Variety" of the Kennel Club.

The Border Terrier is recognizable amongst the terriers for its otter-head which is a broad skull and a short and strong snout. The ears of this dog are V-shaped and fall closely to the cheeks. The tail is innately short and is stocky at the base and tapers towards the end.

The body of this dog is narrow and long and is covered with dense and rough-looking hair. Its height is 13 to 16 inches on the average. The weight is 13 to 15.5 pounds for the male and 11.5 to 14 pounds for the female.

The Border Terrier has a double coat that is soft underneath and coarse, stringy and weather resistant at the top. This rough-looking coat sheds twice a year and thus needs hand stripping during these seasons so as to remove dead hair and allow the coat to grow back unobstructed. The common coat colors for this breed are blue and tan, red, wheaten, and grizzle and tan.

This dog may look rough but it is actually amiable and gets along well with other dogs and animals. It is not aggressive and is not wary of strangers. The Border Terrier is highly intelligent and even tempered but sometimes it is confrontational and stubborn, too.

When it comes to task training, the Border terrier performs excellently and it can jump up to amazing heights and even run fast given that it has short legs. When it comes to agility, this dog is quick to learn and outperforms other breeds outstandingly. However, when it comes to learning tricks, this dog is less trainable.

Since the Border Terrier was primarily developed to be a hunter, it naturally has great stamina and energy that needs to be polished through daily exercise. This breed is decidedly sensitive to pain and most times its illness won't show obvious signs. This dog is not very active indoors and so an apartment living is enough for its activities.

A dog that bites other dogs or humans is a hell of a problem for its master. We do hear stories about canines of all sizes, especially a Rottweiler or a Pitt Bull, mangling an unsuspecting passerby, or pouncing on kids who are playing around, or attacking other dogs. Though these reported instances may be rare happenings and not everyday occurrences, the fact remains that dogs do bite. That realization should be reason enough for every dog owner to nip the biting tendency of a dog in the bud itself, and preempt the possibility of it developing a biting habit.

There are preventative measures one can take to make their dog does not develop a biting problem. The best way to do this is to begin an anti-biting training program when your dog is still a puppy, by socializing them with other well behaved dogs. The other dogs will correct the pup on their own and help you to teach it not to bite. Training your dog early in life that biting, although instinctual, is not acceptable behavior is by far the best approach to having a dog that wont bite.

Since most pups are taken away from their mother and siblings after only their second month of life, it is very important that you take on the mother roll. Dogs learn the majority of their behavior during the first four months of life, which is why rescue dogs and dogs that come from puppy mills are more prone to biting than dogs whom come from responsible and respected breeders.

Puppy mills are overcrowded animal dens run by callous dog owners, who are indifferent to caring for the puppies, and cares only about how much money a puppy would fetch. Puppies that have grown up in such an atmosphere obviously have even health problems, not to speak of emotional and behavioral problems. Since they have no exposure to good behavior, they do not understand what it is.

Even those, who own a rescue dog that easily bites others, can train the dog to give up its biting habit. It is definitely easier to train a young dog, but that does not mean that it is not possible to train an adult dog to be rid of its tendency to bite.

The method of training a big dog is not all that different from training a young one, the only requirement being that it should be done a little mildly. If a grown dog has biting tendencies, it cannot be left unleashed among other dogs, hoping that it would get trained the natural way, taking the cue from the other dogs; nor can it be allowed to roam free in a playground if it has a tendency to bite children. That will just be sticking your neck out to be caught in a lawsuit.

The training has to be done step by step, by walking it around the vicinity of the park and familiarizing it to the presence of other dogs, and in stages letting it mingle with other dogs. Persistence and commitment are the secrets of curing a dog of its biting problem.

Indoor pet owners already know how much our little friends depend on us. It can be extremely stressful to both you and your pet if you work outside the home and have to leave your pet home alone for long periods of time. Think about it, what if you couldn't relieve yourself for eight to ten hour stretches.

We all love our pets. But we both know that sometimes they can get under our skin. Think about all the times you've been home trying to get something accomplished when your pet is persistent in trying to get you to let him out. It's can be a hassle to stop what you're doing and take him outside.

There is a way around all these problems. A way that can lead to a better relationship between you and your pet. Yes, a pet door may be the answer to your problems. Just think, if your pet has the means to go out and come in when he pleases you won't have to worry about coming home and cleaning up a mess he left on the floor. Once he has the freedom to go and come as he needs, interruptions will be a thing of the past.

The pet door itself is not that difficult to install provided you can follow directions and you're handy with tools. If not then it's fairly inexpensive to have a handyman install it for you.

Before getting your pet door you will need some basic information. The height and width of your pet, What type of pet door is best for you. Patio pet door, electronic, or wall. There are many varieties available for you to choose from.

Don't overlook the difficulty of installation. Sometimes they can be confusing for someone that doesn't have much experience using the necessary tools and equipment. If you find that you cannot follow the installation instructions or it's over your head simply have it hired out or perhaps get a friend or neighbor to help.

As with most everything pet doors are designed to fit individual needs and desires. Your final decision should take your own needs into consideration. While doing my homework I found the electronic pet door offered many advantages other types just couldn't match.

The electronic pet door is activated by a signaling device attached to your pets collar. This gives you the peace of mind of knowing the door remains sealed, keeping out unwanted guests and only opens and closes when your pet approaches it. This also reduces the loss of heating and air conditioning.

After your pet learns to use the pet door, both you and he can enjoy the many benefits your new found freedom brings.

If you are looking into aggressive dog behavior training, then you are probably very concerned about the behavior of your dog. It is so hard to have an aggressive dog and love them at the same time.

You may have some mixed feelings because you know the dog could be dangerous, but you have feelings for it and want to keep it. You may be especially concerned if you have kids or other animals in the household. You need to learn to change this aggressive behavior.

The main thing to remember when you are trying to stop dog aggression is that you must get expert advice. Trying to handle an aggressive dog is not something you should try alone.

There are numerous reasons why a dog could be aggressive. It may just be a part of the dog breed. For instance, a pit bull would likely be more aggressive than a cocker spaniel. The dog may have been abused or mistreated as a puppy or the dog could be protective of its family or home.

Often, the dog shows aggression as a way to dominate other dogs. Remember that a dog is a pack animal which means they must show who is the pack leader.

There are many ways to handle aggressive dog behavior training. The very first thing you must do is take your dog to the veterinarian and make sure there are no medical reasons for the aggression.

Second, you may want to think about spaying or neutering your dog. This is a safe procedure that may reduce the aggressiveness, especially in a male dog.

The best way to overcome aggressive dog behavior is to use a professional dog training program that is geared to help with this issue. We are not talking about training your dog to fetch or grab a beer from the fridge. We are talking about correcting and overcoming aggression.

The Schnauzer and Poodle breeds are two of the world's well-loved companions. But combining them to develop an even lovable new dog is beyond the expectations of many fanciers. The Schnoodle, as the result of this crossbreeding is without a doubt Schnauzer and Poodle in one and on its own right, is becoming one of the world's superb companion dog.

The Schnoodle is considered as a domestic dog, mostly adopted as a family pet more than anything else. This dog may be seen living in an apartment, a wide spaced home, and even a farm. It is not extremely active but not dormant as well and so a little space to play and move around with is sufficient for him.

The Poodle and the Schnauzer come in different sizes like for the Poodle: Standard, Miniature or Toy. For the Schnauzer, the sizes range from Giant, Standard, and Miniature. However, for developing of Schnoodles, breeders usually opt for a miniature size which goes between 7 to 26 pounds in weight.

Additionally, not only does the size of the Schnoodle varies but its appearance and characteristics as well. For coat texture for instance, it is known that the Schnauzer has a rough and wiry coat and so some Schnoodles may inherit this trait. The Poodle on the other hand has a soft coat and so some Schnoodles may appear soft coated; in some Schnoodles, a combination of these two different coat textures may appear.

The Schnauzer is recognized for its obvious beard therefore some Schnoodles may possess this characteristic as well. For the coat colors, the Schnoodle can have either the Schnauzer or the Poodle colors. Commonly, these colors are black, white, brown, grey, apricot, parti, black and white and sable.

The Schnauzer and the Poodle are minimum shedders to the point of being hypoallergenic therefore their offspring is inevitably a hypoallergenic dog too. In fact, many people opt to have the Schnoodle for its hypoallergenic trait. Maintaining the coat only requires weekly brushing and grooming every two or three months in order to keep the hair mat and tangle-free.

Schnoodles are relatively easy to train, clever and highly intelligent. As a household companion, they make wonderful pets as they are not yappy. They also make great watchdogs although they are not aggressive and they do get along well with other animals.

This hybrid is also extremely loyal and loving to the family and is excellent around children. It is very friendly, cheerful and does great in obedience and agility. Moreover, this dog does not only make a good family pet but a good therapy dog as well.

by Daniel Varena

Dogs can be very different between breeds.

In the Western world over 800 different breeds are registered. While some breeds are very distinct from others, some do look more alike. The variety is enormous, especially if you compare it to the 'human breeds'.

Dogs have descended from wolves and began domestic interaction with humans only 10,000 years ago. As a consequence, some dog behaviors will develop regardless of the breed. A few common traits stand out and I'd like to discuss 2 of them today.

A Dog is a predator:

That doesn't mean they will hunt down or attack every animals passing by, but it is part of their instinct. They can hear very well in part thanks to precise orientation of their ears. Dogs can pick up a range of sounds and locate the source quickly and with high accuracy.

A dog can see much better than a human. They have a much wider field of vision which is estimated to be at 270 degrees. Humans have a maximum angle of only 150 degrees. So dogs are much better at instantly scanning terrain.

And, of course, they're famous for their sense of smell. They have 25 times more scent-receptor cells and they are able to perceive scents a 100 million times smaller than humans.

For instance, Golden Retrievers are able to smell a gopher in the winter through a yard thick layer of snow and earth. Once picked up the smell of the gopher they'll try to dig a hole in order to capture the animal. That's typical behavior of a predator.

The second trait I want to discuss today is their social character.

That's common knowledge, of course, but unfortunately many times ignored. Individuals will often lock their dog away in a garage or pen, or leave them leashed in the yard for long periods. This isolation from contact with humans or other animals can lead to fear and/or aggression. Dogs need companionship in order to develop healthy behavior.

Having said that, using the isolation technique as part of your dogs' training can be highly effective. Dogs don't want to be excluded from the group and he immediately 'gets' how he should behave within the group.

But too much time without social contact with other animals and people leads to mental distortions. Even guard dogs need social contact, because how can they distinguish between a friend or a foe if he doesn't even know who are his friends?

by Troy Wade

A Lhasa Apso dog is a wonderful companion and certainly an extremely important member of the family.

They give unconditional love and expect nothing in return but your love and attention. We can certainly learn a lot from our dogs can't we?

Your pet greets you with excitement, a wagging tail and dog kisses whether you have been away for one minute or for many weeks. I never get sick of this!

Research has shown that pets, such as dogs and cats, reduce peoples stress levels and lower their blood pressure.

Your Lhasa Apso can amuse and entertain you, keep you from getting bored and turn a bad or boring day into a great one. A dog loves you no matter what you wear or how you look.

They teach their owners about devotion, acceptance and patience and in return, you nurture your pets and care for them.

In return, we, the owners try to teach our dog's acceptable behavior to prevent dog behavior problems, such as excessive barking.

How Your Lhasa Apso Communicates

Yes, I know the picture is not of a Lhasa Apso, But I just couldn't resist using this!

OK... so when any dogs bark, growl, whine or even howl it is a natural and normal behavior and their way of communicating with each other and with their human families.

Starting when they are young puppies they use vocalization to communicate. This may include crying sounds when they are frustrated, afraid, hurt, or soft whining sounds when they are hungry or cold. Older dogs make many different sounds for different situations such as:

* Whimpering or Whining - Dogs often use whining or whimpering as a means of communicating when they seek attention or show submissiveness when greeting other dogs. Many also whine when they are in pain, frustrated, lonely or want something, such as a dog treat or someone to take them for a walk.

* Howling - Many dogs use howling as a long-range means of communicating. If a dog can hear another howling in the distance they often howl back as a form of communicating. Some howl when they hear sirens, certain music or go hunting.

* Growling - As most owners will tell you, dogs growl not only as a warning, to show aggression, dominance and in defense but also when playing. A wagging tail and lots of movement can often accompany play growling. You can tell the difference between play and aggressive growling by a dog's posture; a dog that remains stationery, snarls or stares is using an aggressive growl and they are serious.

* Dog Barking - Barking dogs and excessive barking are ways dogs communicate. Some breeds are trained to bark, such as working or herding dogs and guard dogs. Although barking is normal behavior often used to get attention show excitement and other emotions, excessive dog barking often creates many problems.

For the most success with lhasa apsos; it is suggested you take the time to do a little online research.

Tell Me About Excessive Lhasa Apso Barking Then.

Lhasa Apso barking is a problem when it becomes loud, unwanted, inappropriate or excessive.

When people hear continuous dog barking, it is not only disruptive but also causes stress and annoyance to you and others, such as neighbors.

Nervous, uneasy or lonely barking often happens when your pet is left home alone and they experience separation anxiety or fear.

As your Lhasa Apso becomes more upset, lonely or anxious, the barking gets higher and louder and often annoys neighbors. Many dogs think than when you close the door and leave you are never going to return and this starts the continuous, loud barking.

What's Your Lhasa Apso's Environment Like?

An uninteresting, boring environment that offers no stimulation often creates a bored barker, that makes a lot of noise as an outlet for his or her pent-up energy.

Lhasa Apsos left alone outside or inside for long periods often demonstrate this continuous barking behavior.

They are social animals, and when confined alone in a kennel or yard the result is excessive barking because they are bored or lonely and want some attention.

Since nobody is there to stop them from barking, it almost becomes a hobby to them

Dogs love to play ball, Frisbee and games with their owners and often bark when they become excited. Unfortunately, some get too excited and the dog barking turns into a major problem for anyone within hearing distance.

Did You Know This?

The percentage of male and female purebred and mixed bred Lhasa Apsos that bark excessively is essentially the same,

Lhasa Apsos that do not get enough exercise often bark or whine to release tension. Some dogs seem to be very hypersensitive to movements and sounds around them.

Often, when a person gets a new puppy and it barks, they shout at them to stop their barking. Unfortunately, a puppy takes this as a sign that you are answering them back so they continue and this eventually turns into excessive barking or inappropriate dog behavior.

Sometimes owners unintentionally train their Lhasa Apso to bark by giving them the attention they want. If your Lhasa Apso barks to go in or out, for a treat, to play ball, for a tummy rub or other reasons, they learn quickly that barking will get results!

How About Some Tips To Help Control Barking Then?

Well, here are a few proven tips on teaching your Lhasa Apso to stop his or her excessive barking:

* As amazing as it sounds, teaching your Lhasa Apso to speak or bark on command is a simple way to teach them to stop barking.

Find something that makes them bark, such as withholding their toy or treat away from them. Once they bark, praise them and keep repeating the word 'speak'.

When you do this often enough, your Lhasa Apso learns that the word speak means bark and the dog will start barking on command.

Now you teach them the word 'stop' or 'quiet'. You do this when they are barking, say the word and give them their treat or toy.

When repeated often enough, it does not take long for your dog to figure out that saying the word quiet or stop, means for them to stop barking and they'll receive a reward.

If someone comes into your home and you tell your dog 'quiet' and it stops barking, praise him or her and keep reinforcing your dog's good behavior.

* The best way to teach your dog to stop barking is by training them well when they are very young. If you have an older dog, don't give up though!

* There will be times when you must leave your dog alone. To get your pet used to this without barking, start by leaving the house just for a few moments.

Never make a fuss of your dog when you leave and after being gone a few minutes, come back in. Again, do not make a fuss of the dog.

Gradually increase the time you are away but make it seem very natural so your dog knows you will return. This way they do not feel so stressed.

* Some Lhasa Apsos are calmer when they hear a person's voice so try leaving the radio on low.

* Try to keep your Lhasa Apso away from things that start him barking, for example looking out the window. Close your curtains or blinds and if this doesn't work, give the command 'quiet' or 'stop', then slam a book down or shake a can full or marbles, to make a loud noise. Once he is quiet, have him sit, praise the dog and give it a treat.

* Exercise and mental stimulation are extremely important and help keep dogs from nuisance barking or exhibiting bad dog behavior.

Letting your Lhasa Apso out in the yard for a few minutes is not enough exercise. Your pet needs a long walk, brisk exercise or playtime daily, to run off some of his energy and keep his barking controlled.

Remember that a tired dog does not bark as much. On a walk, your dog smells and sees different sights, which keeps him from getting bored. Try teaching your Lhasa Apso new tricks or obedience training, as they need mental stimulation to keep them from barking.

A Final Word For You.

When properly exercised, rewarded and trained there are very few Lhasa Apsos that are unable to control their barking.

It is very important to remember that dogs bark as part of their natural behavior, just like humans speak to communicate. Never try to completely eliminate dog barking from their repertoire, and only use positive training methods to accomplish this.

Most Lhasa Apso owners will be able to curb or prevent problem barking.

Need More Help?

I hope this short outline introduction to Managing Barking has been helpful for you.

by Troy Richardson

Just because this adorable companion dog is named after France, it does not mean it originated from there, too. The fact is, the French Bulldog originated from England and was primarily bred to become a miniature English Bulldog. Its introduction and further development in France caused it to be named as the French Bulldog.

During the middle of 1800s, lace workers from England came to France in search for jobs and they brought along with them the little bulldogs. In their community, these dogs became superb ratters and well-loved family companion. These dogs were then developed with the use of French Terriers and the resulting breed became a trend in Paris.

During the rage, you can practically see the Frenchie led in leashes by Parisian street walkers. The dog was perceived as exotic then and mostly got the interest of people on the street and so the owner got chances of meeting new people too. In old French postcards, skimpily clad prostitutes are seen holding their Frenchies and not long enough, the rage reached all over Europe.

Well-known personalities around the world were seen to have Frenchies and these include: the Russian royal family, King Edward VII, Collete the author, and Toulouse-Lautrec. However, the current appearance of the Frenchie is credited to the American breeders who further improved this breed at the start of the century. The American fanciers were also the first people to create the very first French Bulldog Club.

The French Bulldog has a stocky and well-muscled body and has a weight of 20 to 28 pounds. The head, like an English Bulldog, is square and flat; the nose is flat like the Pug's and the ears are erect and bat-like. The tails are also short, should come naturally and not docked, and could be straight or screw-like.

The coat of this dog is short, soft and smooth. The skin is not tight and is fairly lose and it makes petting this dog very pleasant to the touch. The common coat colors for this dog are brindle, fawn, white and every combination of these.

Many people love to have the Frenchie as a companion because of its pleasant and easy going nature. It is also remarkably playful, loving and sweet. This dog will never fail to make you laugh because it is comical in nature that's why it is called the clown.

Moreover, this dog is intelligent, vigilant and curious. It needs daily exercise and is sensitive to extreme temperatures; in fact too much heat gives him a heat stroke. An urban dwelling is sufficient for this breed as it is not too active and a wide yard is not necessarily needed.

The Australian Cattle Dogs breed history is quite difficult to trace. The reason was the several experimentations done in order to produce an ideal breed to make up the ultimate heeler, the one that could survive and work in the Australian hinterland. It was not until 1897 when this dog breed became distinct.

Ancestors of this dog breed were the collies and dingoes. The resulting offspring was bred to Bull Terrier in 1870s by Fred Davis. In the late 19th century and early 20th century, the newly discovered breed was common for serving as guard dogs and sporting companion.

Such well-muscled, sturdy, and very agile breed makes an ideal characteristic combination to serve as a helper for cattle-herding. Australian Cattle Dog is named after its skills in droving cattle. This is the common reason why this breed is also mistakenly referred to as Australian Shepherd which is a totally different breed.

Generally, Australian Cattle Dog is well-muscled, sturdy, powerful, and compact. With its genetically derived physical attributes, it has an exceptional skill on agility. It has also superb intelligence and versatility, making it a perfect assistant for herders.

Easily identified physical appearance of this breed includes longer body with slightly curved tail. Legs are flawlessly straight when viewed from the front. It has pointed pricked ears and slightly rounded head.

Its pointed pricked ears and broad, bit rounded head are the distinctive physical features. Dark brown eyes are medium-sized and oval in shape. Its coat is composed of short dense undercoat and short straight outer coat, making its body cold and heat resistant.

Maintain the dogs overall health requirements by allowing it to engage in activities that enhances its stamina. Any activities such as tossing a ball and flyball games are already good in training this breeds physical and mental health. This dog is also an excellent jogging companion.

Australian Cattle Dogs life expectancy reaches from 12 years up to 15 years. Such life expectancy wont be met if the owner knows nothing about the inevitable hereditary disorders of this dog type. However, this breed has something to be proud of above all other breeds because it was recorded by Guinness Book of World Records that an Australian Cattle Dog has lived for 29 earth years or 203 dog years.

The gigantic and black-eyed St. Bernard was primarily the Swiss Alps' search and rescue dog. In fact, countless heroic stories can attest to these events and many people have lived to tell their stories about how valiant the St. Bernards are. Today, however, not only is this dog considered as the ultimate hero of the Alps but a loyal and reliable companion of many families as well.

The St. Bernard is considered as a Molossoid breed and its ancestors were the massive Molossoid breeds of the Roman soldiers and the Sennenhunds, which were the herding and hunting dogs of the Alps then. The current appearance of the St. Bernard is not the original one because there was a time before when the breed endangered because many St. Bernards slowly got killed during avalanches. To continue the breed's existence, Newfoundlands were used and the results are the present appearance of St. Bernards.

The name St. Bernard came from the hospice at St. Bernard Pass in the Western Alps, a region between Switzerland and Italy. This pass is dangerous and travelers often seek shelter with the monks in this hospice. The dogs of this community, which are used for search and rescue, were named after the pass and this pass was named after Bernard of Menthon, an 11th century monk who founded the place.

Aside from St. Bernard, this breed was also known before as the Saint Dog, Noble Steed, Alpenmastiff and Barry. Barry is also a name of a very famous St. Bernard because of its courageous efforts that saved 40 to 100 people from certain death. Today, the remnant of this dog was preserved at the National History Museum at Berne and a monument was established in his name at the Cimetiere des Chiens.

This massive dog weighs a whooping 160 to 260 pounds and stands at 27 1/2 to 35 1/2 inches in height. The tail of this breed is long, heavy and low and turns up lightly. The eyelids open a little and the face and ears are colored black.

This dog's coat can be smooth or rough and that the smooth coat fairly fits the body and is flat. The rough textured coat is flat and dense especially around the neck and legs. The coat colors for this breed are red with white and mahogany brindle with white.

The St. Bernard is a dependable household companion as it is hardworking, eager to please, and extremely loyal. It is patient and tolerant with little children and with additional good socialization during puppyhood, it can also be as tolerant to smaller animals. This dog is fairly manageable so long as it is trained early on and it should also help that this dog is intelligent and obedient.

This dog, although large, is not as energetic but instead gentle and affable. It does not need a wide space to live on and so an apartment and a small yard would suffice him. Daily exercise for this dog is only comprised of a long walk and this will make him stay healthy mentally and physically.

If you've noticed fleas or ticks on your dog, you're probably worried sick that they will get on you or infest your house. I felt the same way when the "natural" methods I had tried failed to keep my dog Kera flea-free.

Before I started using Frontline for dog fleas on my guide dog puppy in training, Kera, my paranoia about dog fleas and ticks was constant!

Just consider it for a minute... When do you stress about fleas on your dog? Is it when you snuggle with your dog on the settee or in bed? Is it when you see your dog scratch-scratch-scratching at that same place all the time? What about when you go out for walks and your dog brushes against some tall grass or shrubs?

There are heaps of good flea and tick products available in the market, including Frontline plus, dog Advantix and Advantage for dogs... If you've been fighting with dog fleas and ticks, you may want to test out a flea repellent of some type.

So, ask : What do you need in a flea or tick treatment for your dog?

* Stop the itching for your dog or cat

* Kill the fleas and ticks that are bedeviling your pet

* Break the flea life cycle so they don't come back!

* Safe flea control for my pet and my family

Name brand products like K-9 Advantix, Advantage, or Frontline for dog flea issues, are proved to be both safe and effective. In fact, they are sold and recommended by vets across the nation.

Not only do these products eliminate flea and tick issues, but they can stop the spread of the threatening diseases ( like Lyme illness and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever ) that these bugs help to propagate.

It is important to use your flea and tick control continually. This not only makes sure continued flea and tick relief for your pets, but helps avoid breeding resistant strains of bugs in your household.

Don't let your pet suffer with itching that leads to scratching and irritation. Do not be disturbed if the bugs and their offspring are spreading to your furniture, carpet and yard.

Instead, get confidence and protect yourself with a good, safe flea control product. Discover if your vet commends Advantage, Advantix or Frontline for dog flea Problems, or another product altogether - you will be glad you asked so you do not have to fret any more!

this mixed mastiff/terrier breed is a relatively new one, having been bred for only about half a century now. John Swinford, a veterinarian in the US bred a female Neapolitan Mastiff with a make American pit bull terrier, leading to this new breed. Breeder Joe Lucero soon followed suit and the breed quickly took off.

There are a few variations on this breed, with one of the more common being a cross of the American pit bull and the English mastiff. Those dogs whose parents are certified purebreds are the most attractive and healthy of the American Bandogge Mastiffs - known as a very attractive breed in their own right. They are muscular animals as you'd expect from their pit bull heritage. They also display the brindled patterns in their fur typical of the pit bull. Black brindle is the most common, but red, blue and tawny colors are also sometimes seen.

With their quiet nature, they also tend to have separation anxiety. They get lonely quickly and do not like for their owners to be out of their sight. Despite the lack of barking at intruders as they come about, these gentle giants will howl when their owners are absent. Just like most dogs, if they are raised from a puppy around other animals, even kittens, they can get along with them just fine, despite their large build.

Being the large dog that they are, they are also very active and love to exercise. Be prepared to do a lot of walking. They definitely will need to go on a regular walk, especially if they are confined to a house all day long while you are at work. It doesn't take too long to get attached to these 'Silent Peacekeepers'. They attach quickly to their owners and family and can become quite aggressive when provoked. They are very good with children. They stand to be confident. They are an extremely obedient breed.

The American Bandog is also very easy to groom and maintain. They tend to have a little bit of dry skin. However, they are easy to take care of as far as brushing, for the most part. They have a short coat that is easy to maintain.

These dogs have a long list of good qualities to recommend them. They're loyal and will protect children and other pets as if they were their own, they're very intelligent and easy to train, playful and loving, large and fierce looking dogs who love and gentle by nature. All this and easy to groom too! The American Bandogge Mastiff may be a new breed, but they are one which is certain to stick around they live up to the title of man's best friend like few other breeds.

Spaniel dog breeds were first seen at the onset of the medieval era. According to dog breed historians, this dog breed are seen on the paintings of some famous artists. Originally, this dog breed came into existence to serve as a companion for hunting. The name of this dog breed is obtained from the dog's capability to spring the game bird into the air when guns were not invented yet.

When the shotgun came, the bird of prey was replaced. However, the English Springer spaniel remained being the best hunting aide. Being a skilled hunter of waterfowl and rabbit, people always recommend this type of dog breed for incomparably fun hunting games.

This dog breed is always compared to Velcro because of its similarity to wanting being in the immediate vicinity of his owner. Wherever the owner goes, this dog also goes. The presence of the owner, somehow, makes the dog feel secured and comfortable.

Other reasons why this dog is often preferred to be a hunting companion is that it is playful, energetic, happy and cheerful compared to other breeds. Simple things such as socks, empty bottles, or towels, the dog can already have fun playing alone. Its humor is far extraordinary than other breeds so owners prefer to have this type of dog breed.

The very important thing to consider in order to enhance the dogs total health is to have it engage in regular training. Flyball or Frisbee game is already enough activity for the dog's mental exercise aside from having it as a jogging companion. Since this dog breed already proved its worth as a good waterfowl or rabbit hunter, people always choose to have this dog for a more fun sporting adventure.

Its unlimited stamina poses for high requirements on exercise in order to have its mental health optimized. If the owner fails to maintain the overall health of this dog breed, it may contract diseases resulting from weakening immune system. Common diseases for English Springer spaniels are Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA) and hip dysplasia; that is why, it is important for the owner to take necessary preventive measures such as asking for health clearances from the breeder.

Other diseases that are common to this breed type are ear infections. Failing to clean the dog's ears every week causes the growth of yeast and bacteria. Yeast and bacteria lead to ear and later brain infections; trimming the hair around the ears also help in the prevention bacterial and yeast growth.

English Springer Spaniels are generally fast-learners, eager to please, and submissive to their owner. Their exceptional attentiveness and alertness make good combination traits for being perfect hunting companions. According to Stanley Cohen's "The Intelligence of Dogs," the English Springer Spaniel ranks 13th.

When we go out and buy dog shampoo, we just grab whatever we see on the shelf and toss it into the shopping cart. We continue our shopping and the rest does not matter. This is the habit many people have. They neglect to read the back of the product to actually see what is inside. The next time you go shopping, take the time to look at the ingredients at the back of the bottle. If you have not heard of the word paraben, you have probably come across it when you were reading through the ingredients.

Did you know that parabens have actually caused dogs to get tumors? Did you know this ingredient has been linked to cancer? They are both facts and it's definitely not something you want your dog to absorb into their skin. See parabens are used to kill fungus and bacteria in the product itself. While it sounds beneficial, it's only used in the products to give them a longer shelf life.

So make sure you pay attention to the ingredients for the natural dog shampoo you purchase. If you do see parabens listed, let it sit on the shelf and collect dust. It's best to use something that has natural ingredients and can actually help the body. In a dog's case, it not only helps keeps them healthy, it also gives them a shiny looking coat that lets you know he or she is doing well. Just remember, no toxic botanicals and your dog, the environment, and family will be safer.

A homemade dog diet gives a dog owner a chance to make sure that the dog is receiving proper nutrition. A dog owner may choose to cook the dog's food or follow a raw food diet. Whichever the dog owner prefers, some basic principles of dog nutrition should be followed.

Commercial dog food contains significantly more carbohydrates than what I dog would naturally eat. While most commercial dog foods contain thirty to seventy percent carbohydrates, the most a dog eats in the wild is less than thirty percent.

The homemade dog diet should imitate a dog's natural nutritional needs. Homemade dog diets contain a lower percentage of carbohydrates than commercial dog food.

Grains, starchy vegetables, and the rice are examples of carbohydrates commonly included in homemade dog diets. Carbohydrates, like potatoes, should be cooked since dogs cannot digest them properly.

Protein and fat are very important components of a dog's diet. According to the Merck Veterinary Manual, a dog's diet should be up to fifteen percent fat for adult dogs and twenty percent fat for puppies.

Twenty-five percent is the recommended amount of protein in a dog's diet. Protein is essential because dogs need the protein for amino acids. Amino acids are so important that a dog can die if it does not get enough protein.

Chicken, beef, liver, turkey, and lamb are examples of good sources of protein for a homemade dog diet. However, dogs should not eat too much liver.

Many homemade dog diets contain some fresh, chopped vegetables. Many dog owners believe that their dogs need a significant amount of fiber. Dogs do not necessarily need fiber, but some fiber can be beneficial for digestion and maintaining proper body weight.

Certain foods that people eat can be toxic for dogs. Feeding the dog chocolate, raisins, mushrooms, grapes, raw eggs, raw fish, or large amounts of salt should be avoided. The veterinarian can be an excellent resource for dog owners who have questions about their dogs diet.

The Bouvier is considered to be a vigilant dog breed and has been noted for its distinguished working ability. During the First World War, Bouvier des Flandres served as a messenger as well as an ambulance dog. With its warfare exposure, the breed has nearly reached its extinction.

These kinds of breed are considered as the smart type since they can be easily trained. Once trained with commands, they can easily remember it for the rest of their lives. They tend to have a greater perception as compared to other animals when it comes to understanding simple commands.

Bouvier des Flandres which means cowherd from Flanders is characterized by its rugged look and intimidating appearance. Its head is the most notable feature accentuated with the heavy beard and mustache. The thick double coat creates the powerful built that gives an impression about size and strength.

Male Bouviers can weigh as much as 55 kilograms and can grow up to 28 inches. Females are slightly smaller with an average height of 22-27 inches and weighs between 27-36 pounds and they can bear as much as 10 live youngs during its pregnancy cycle. However, these dogs have a life expectancy of about 10-12 years.

Despite the intimidating impression it creates, Bouviers are actually calm and gentle. Most of the times these dogs are enthusiastic, fearless, and even tempered making them easy to train. They are fast in learning about commands and once they are familiarized with a certain command, they will carry it for the rest of their lives.

Male Bouviers are heavier than the females. They can weigh as much as 55 kilograms and reach a maximum height of 28 inches. Females on the other hand can weigh at about 36 kilograms and can be as high as 27 inches. The numbers of offspring that a female can have in a regular pregnancy cycle are 8-10 with a maximum life span of 12 years.

Bouviers are said to be slow when it comes to maturity. They become physically and mentally matured when they reach the age of 2- 3 years. Dogs from this breed are very adaptable making them an excellent family pet.

Include a regular exercise in their daily regimen. These dogs love to exercise a lot especially run around the parks. But once they feel abused or mistreated, these dogs can become aggressive as well.

The conduct of a dog, whether it is decent or shocking is the task of the owner. There is no reason to have a badly behaved dog if you are a dog owner because the majority of dogs are rather straightforward to teach.

When you become a dog owner the most significant thing that you must do is determine the pecking order of your dwelling. You are the master; you must be the alpha dog. Dogs are biologically pack animals and they insist on this and will respond. Every human member of the family unit must rank over the dog in the order of the pack. The dog should follow the commands of the human family members.

Dogs do not have the logic skills that are inherent in human beings. So you are essentially doing your dog a act of kindness when you are resolute on his submission and obedience to your desires. You must be the alpha dog and your dog will love you more for it.

If you are going to be sure to keep your dog safe and sound and your family unit content you must be able to control your dog. He will respond to you every time if he considers you to be the alpha dog.

There are a few things that you need to deliberate when you think about training your dog. First of all, dogs will take action better to encouraging reinforcement than to downbeat reinforcement. You can always get better outcome with admiration and treats than you can with anger or yelling.

The best consequences come about when you take no notice of the negative activities and reward the preferred manners. Giving awareness to your dog for negative behavior can produce fear in your dog rather than respect and observance. Remember that dogs cannot reason like a human being and they just do not recognize why you are irritated and it just results in terror.

You must also reinforce sought manners instantly, or else your dog will not relate the most wanted manners with the reward. Your dog only lives in the existing minute so if it doesn't ensue instantly, he will not get it. You can reward your dog with treats, praise, toys, playtime or even just a pat on the head. A dog will respond to affirmative reinforcement, in spite of of the form it takes.

As soon as your dog comprehends the desired conduct and he is doing it on order, you then need to begin rewarding him only now and then. Like Pavlov's dog, irregular reinforcement will cement in the behavior better than giving him a reward every separate time.

If you are reliable with your guidance labors, your dog can become well trained quickly and straightforwardly. Just be sure that you are the alpha and that you constantly require the greatest results from your dog.
