How long can dogs hold it?
i have a 4lb neutered male toy poodle who is just over 1 year old. i thought he was housetrained but have been finding his pee all around the bottom of the trashcan in my kitchen, i let him out atleast every two / three hours while i am home, and at nite or when i leave i crate him so i know he can hold it (unless he has been going in his crate too!) the other nite i caught him lift his leg on my dresser! how long should he be able to hold it? i am considering putting a "belly band" (kinda like a diaper) on him between trips to the yard. has anyone else encountered this problem or know how to correct it?
Usually toy dogs can hold it for 4-5 hrs. by the time they are 6 months. I let my chihuahua out every 4 hrs., when she gets up and before bed. She hasn't had any accidents. You probably need to retrain her as she is having a lot of mistakes. If she has any extra stress or you recently went on vacation and he was left at a kennel that may be the problem. Sometimes, a relasp in house training can also be a sign of a medical issue but if you poodle is only 1 yr, that is unlikely. Hence, just retrain your poodle.
