Blackmouth Cur: The Multi-Purpose Dog That Hailed From the Different States Of The US

The Blackmouth Cur is a breed of dog that has many lines that originated from different states in the US. Each line has a special skill that is useful for the family, farmers, breeders and almost everyone. But generally, the Blackmouth Cur is one skillful dog that has been used for herding, hunting, treeing, and more.

The different lines of the Blackmouth Cur include the Ladner Yellow Blackmouth Cur that originated from Mississippi. This breed was the first blackmouth cur to be registered in a kennel club, the National Kennel Club on April of 1964. This line is particularly good in: treeing squirrel, raccoon and bobcat; hunting hogs and cattle, and search and rescue services.

The Red Blackmouth Cur is another line that came from Alabama. It has been useful as a herder, hunter and guard dog. It is said that the courthouses of Howardtown, Alabama owned this line of the Blackmouth Cur in the 1940s.

Another line is the Wetherford Ben Blackmouth Cur which originated from Texas and was used mostly for herding. The Florida Blackmouth Cur is another line that originated from Florida that was used primarily for herding, too. The Blackmouth Cur breed is considered as a multi-purpose dog in the United States and its fame now reaches to countries as far as Haiti, Russia, India and some pats of Europe.

The Blackmouth Cur has been called by different kinds of names such as farmer’s dog, Shepherds Hound, cow dog and Herdsman’s dog; and has been spelled in forms like Cu, Curre and Kurre. Currently, there is no officially recognized Blackmouth Cur breed in the American Kennel Club (AKC). In the United Kennel Club, however, they recognize the Red Blackmouth Cur as the standard for the Blackmouth Cur line.

The Blackmouth Cur is very good at treeing and hunting, and possesses an outstanding skill in jumping and climbing. For this reason, it is important to confine this active dog in a fenced area that are as high as six meters or more. The Blackmouth Cur is also noted for its courage and strength as it never backs down in encounters with other large animals even bulls and bears.

Towards the family, this dog is very loyal and is very eager to please. It is very protective of its master, his family and property thats why it makes a good watchdog and guard dog. It is also a fast learner and an intelligent breed and is not too sensitive towards reinforcements; in fact, you can even use a harsh tone in correcting this breed.

The appearance of the Blackmouth Cur is composed of a short and rough or smooth coat. The colors appear in red, fawn, brindle, yellow, black and white. The Blackmouth Cur also has large and webbed feet just like the Catahoula Leopard which is another American breed of dog.
