The best time for Mastiff training is when a puppy is four to six months old. By this age, your puppy should be able to learn the commands "sit", "stay", "down" and "come". You can build on this foundation of commands by lengthening out the time for your Mastiff to "stay", teaching him to "wait", and "slow down". He will continue to learn new commands as he grows.

By this time, he should also be house-trained and have some understanding about what is alright to chew on, and what is not. Always use lots of praise with your Mastiff, and never be physically rough. They are very tender-hearted.
